Overview
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) designs a variety of digital semiconductors for markets such as PCs, gaming consoles, data centers, industrial, and automotive applications. AMD’s traditional strength was in central processing units and graphics processing units used in PCs and data centers. Additionally, the firm supplies the chips found in prominent game consoles such as the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox.
Bulls Say
AMD has been eating Intel’s lunch in the PC CPU market as Intel’s manufacturing has hit multiple roadblocks in recent years.
By teaming up with TSMC—the undisputed leader in chip manufacturing—and adopting a chiplet design, AMD has been able to roll out stronger products with more flexibility and faster time-to-market.
And while Nvidia is the clear front-runner in AI, AMD isn’t out of the game. The AI boom is massive, and there’s plenty of room for competition. With demand for GPUs skyrocketing, AMD’s alternatives could carve out a solid share of the market.
Bears Say
Even with AMD’s recent market share gains, Intel is still the dominant player in PC CPUs. If Intel can get its manufacturing back on track, it could take back a huge chunk of the market.
When it comes to AI, AMD has the hardware, but Nvidia has the full package—both GPUs and the software ecosystem that makes them the go-to choice for AI developers. To seriously challenge Nvidia, AMD will need to level up its software game.
And in gaming, AMD’s semicustom chip business is tied to console upgrade cycles, meaning the next big revenue boost might still be a couple of years away.
Technical Analysis
AMD’s technical picture is BEARISH as the primary trend is DOWN as the 200-day moving average is sloping downwards along with other key moving averages (15 and 50-day MAs):
Robert's Recommendation
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has been one of the most talked-about semiconductor stocks over the past few years, gaining market share in the CPU space while expanding into GPUs and AI acceleration.
